DreamWorks Animation has attached a director and a writer to their in-development project Captain Underpants. Rob Letterman, who also directed DreamWorks’ Shark Tale and Monsters vs. Aliens will direct the film, with Nicholas Stoller who penned The Muppets writing this film.

Based on a long running series of books written and illustrated by Dav Pilkey, the feature film has not yet found a hard release date (though we do not anticipate it hitting theaters before 2015). The series of books deal with two fourth graders- Harold and George. They use their hypnotic powers to do what every all-American boy wants to do- transform their principal into Captain Underpants!

Surprisingly, the children’s book series topped the list of the most banned books in America in 2012, beating out the much more controversial title “Fifty Shades of Grey.” While such a distinction may not appeal to the Disney crowd, that is instant appeal to DreamWorks.
