Wreck-It Ralph Sequel Replaces Gigantic
Disney announced via Facebook Live that Oscar-winning animated film Wreck-It Ralph will be treated to a sequel in 2018. Though currently unofficially titled Wreck-It Ralph 2, the film will see the return of John C. Reilly as Ralph and the anticipated return of Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer, and Jane Lynch as Vanellope von Schweetz, Fix-It Felix, Jr., and Sergeant Calhoun, respectively.
Wreck-It Ralph director returns to direct the sequel, and is joined by Phil Johnston. The film is to be produced by Clark Spencer.
The story is being kept under wraps, but Reilly let slip a little bit about the story. “Ralph leaves the arcade and wrecks the Internet,” he said. “What could possibly go wrong?” What indeed.
To make room or Ralph, Disney also said that it had moved Gigantic out of the March 9, 2018, date now occupied by Wreck-It Ralph 2. Now, the animated film loosely based on the fairy tale Jack and the Beanstalk, is rescheduled to be released eight months later on Nov. 21, 2018.
Wreck-It Ralph grossed more than $470 million worldwide in it’s original theatrical release. Disney is growing several animated film franchises with the sequels Frozen 2, Cars 3, The Incredibles 2 and Toy Story 4 also in the works. Disney is also pumping outs a series of live-action remakes of classic films such as this years’ The Jungle Book, Pete’s Dragon, Beauty And The Beast and Dumbo.
