Oscar-Award winning stop-motion animation director Will Vinton has teamed up with Gnosis Moving Pictures to bring four new stop-motion animation projects to the screen soon. This ambitious schedule will be Vinton’s first major projects since Will Vinton Associates was wrestled away from him (and eventually became Laika Entertainment). Vinton is on board to direct and co-write all four projects.

First on the list is The Quest, a comedy set in outer space. John Cleese has signed on as a member of the voice cast of this film. Moby & Dick will be a father/son story inspired by the classic Herman Melville novel Moby Dick. Jack Hightower is a feature-film version of the Dark Horse graphic comic written by Will Vinton and Andrew Wiese. Finally, look forward to Nicholas, renamed from an earlier project titled Santa: An Animated Holiday Treat. In this fil;m, Santa Claus must do battle with his megalomaniacal nemesis Old Man Winter to reassert the worth of his old fashioned ideas in the face of a modern world. The film is based on L. Frank Baum’s novel The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus.

Will Vinton has a long and storied history in stop-motion animation. In fact, he is the man who coined the term “claymation” to describe what he does. His short Closed Mondays won the Academy Award for Best Short Animated Film in 1975.

Gnosis Moving Pictures was started last year as a privately financed media and technology company.
