Release date set for Untitled Minions Project

Universal Pictures’ “Untitled Minions Project,” a spin-off from the blockbuster movie Despicable Me, will be released December 19, 2014, the studio announced Tuesday night.
Produced by Illumination Entertainment and released by Universal, the original Despicable Me had a $543 million worldwide gross during its 2010 release. The sequel Despicable Me 2 is scheduled to reach theaters July 3, 2013.
The popular little yellow creatures will be featured in the spin-off. However, the comedy adventure’s plot hasn’t been announced.
To be released in 3D-CG, the film will be produced by Illumination’s Chris Meledandri and Janet Healy, with Chris Renaud as executive producer. Pierre Coffin will direct.
Brian Lynch has written the screenplay. Kyle Balda will co-direct.
