The popular 1990’s Hanna-Barbera series The Powerfuff Girls is headed back to Cartoon Network. Not much has been released about the new series, so we have no word on who is directing, writing or producing. We don’t even know if it will reboot in the style of the recent Dance Pantsed or go off on it’s own. About all we do know for sure is that it will be out in 2016… and Cartoon Network is looking at major licensing deals based on the new series.

The Powerpuff Girls (II) was announced at the 2014 Licensing Expo in Las Vegas on June 16, Monday by Cartoon Network’s chief content officer Rob Sorcher. “As the original ambassador of ‘girl power,’ ‘The Powerfuff Girls’ brand continues to resonate with people of all ages and there is tremendous excitement around introducing Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup to a new generation,” stated Pete Yoder, vice president of consumer products for North America, Cartoon Network Enterprises. “With proven success and great content plans in place, there’s so much potential that we’re looking forward to explore with our licensing partners in the coming weeks.”

It looks like licensing income is the real driver for this reboot, at least so far.
