The premiere of Marvel / Disney’s Guardians of the Galaxy is imminent on Disney XD… and sneak peaks are already airing. A series of animated short peaks that preview the series have already started airing on Disney XD. There will be a full advance preview on September 5, with the full one-hour premiere following on September 26.
There are already some previews of the show available on Youtube. Honestly, the animation does not look all that incredible, but that may not be all that big a deal in the Marvel fan base. So long as the stories stay within the accepted canon for the Marvel characters, the fans seem to be pretty excited about this new show.
The series follows the newly-formed team who finds a strange artifact keyed only to the DNA of Peter Quill. Upon opening it, Quill unleashes a treasure map leading to a powerful weapon known as the Cosmic Seed which is capable of giving birth to the next universe. It’s up to the Guardians to find, protect and ultimately destroy the Cosmic Seed in order to keep it out of the hands of those who would abuse its power, from galactic big boss Thanos, to the conniving brothers the Collector and the Grandmaster, to a resurrected Ronan, to the ultimate trickster, Loki, in order to save the universe.
Announced by Disney at San Diego Comic Con even before the feature film was released. Disney also announced a sequel to the feature film.
The “Guardians” characters have already appeared in animated form in episodes of Avengers Assemble.
