After Disney’s Oscar-winning Frozen became the highest grossing animated film of all time, it was inevitable that the mouse-house would revisit the arctic kingdom of Elisa and Anna. In a move that will make pre-teens the world over scream for more Icee’s, Walt Disney Animation Studios has announced that in Spring 2015 they will follow the feature film up with the release a theatrical short titled Frozen Fever.
Original film directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee are returning for the project, as is producer Peter Del Vecho. The husband and wife team of Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez- who gave the original film the Oscar-winning song “Let It Go”- also return with a new song for the short. While the cast was not announced, it is expected that Kristen Bell (Anna), Idina Menzel (Elsa), Jonathan Groff (Kristoff) and Josh Gad (Olaf) will all return to their respective roles.
The film will take place at Anna’s birthday party. Elsa and Kristoff are determined to give her the best celebration ever, but Elsa’s icy powers may put more than just the party at risk.
The short has not been attached to a theatrical film, but the buzz is that it will accompany either Kenneth Branagh’s live-action remake of Cinderella, Pixar’s Inside Out or Tomorrowland (a live-action film featuring George Clooney).
