The much-discussed untitled Pixar Movie About Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) has finally come to life. Now, finally with a title- Coco– the film is headed for theaters in Fall 2017. The film was originally announced by director Lee Unkrich at CinemaCon on April 24, 2012 as his next film, but further information on the film has been nonexistent since.
The film is being produced by Darla K. Anderson. Unkrich and Anderson were previously paired on
Toy Story 3. The film centers on a 12 year old boy named Miguel, who sets off a chain of events relating to a century-old mystery and explores his family history.
The Día de los Muertos, a holiday celebrated in Mexico and other Hispanic countries, was also used as an inspiration for last years’ The Book of Life from Reel FX and Jorge R. Gutierrez.
