Animated Film Oscar Nominations
This morning in Hollywood, Chris Hemsworth announced the nominees for this year’s Academy Awards. In the animation world, there are a few surprises, like no nominations for Pixar, either for feature or short. Only five films were considered for Best Animated Feature this year, despite a large field of possible contenders. Best Animated Short features a wide swath of foreign shorts, with only one from the US.
The nominees for Best Animated Feature this year are:
- The Croods, Nickelodeon Movies, Paramount Pictures, DreamWorks Animation
- Despicable Me 2, Universal Studios, Illumination Entertainment
- Ernest et Célestine (Ernest and Celestine), La Parti Productions, Les Armateurs, Maybe Movies, Mélusine Productions
- Frozen, Walt Disney Animation Studios
- Kaze Tachinu (The Wind Rises), Studio Ghibli
And the nominees for Best Animated Short for 2013 are:
- “Feral,” Daniel Sousa, director, and Dan Golden, music and sound design (Daniel Sousa)
- “Get a Horse!” Lauren MacMullan, director, and Dorothy McKim, producer (Walt Disney Feature Animation)
- “Mr. Hublot,” Laurent Witz, director, and Alexandre Espigares, co-director (Zeilt Productions)
- “Room on the Broom,” Max Lang and Jan Lachauer, directors (Magic Light Pictures, Studio SOI)
- “Tsukumo,” (Possessions) Shuhei Morita, director (Sunrise Inc.)
The 86th Academy Awards will air Sunday, March 2, at 7 p.m. ET on ABC. Ellen DeGeneres returns as host this year, having previously hosted in 2007.
