Laika Announces New Animated Film

Kubo and the Two StringsContinuing their every-two-year production schedule (Coraline in 2009, ParaNorman in 2012 and this years’ The Boxtrolls), Liaka Entertaiment has announced their fourth feature animated film, based on a new, original story. The film, to be titled Kubo and the Two Strings will hit screens in summer 2016, and has a great cast so far announced. Intended to be “epic and intimate, “, the film will continue Laika’s unique meld of stop-motion and CGI animated films that push the extremes of what stop-motion films are thought to be.

Laikas Boxtrolls Opens Big

boxtrollsLaika Entertainment had it’s biggest open ever this weekend with their new animated stop-motion feature The Boxtrolls. The film came in third place in the United States with an estimated $17.3 million in total weekend box office. The Boxtrolls was up againstĀ  The Maze Runner, which barely squeaked ahead in second with $17.5 million. The film also fared well overseas, opening in first and second in the UK and in Mexico.

Boxtrolls Opens Big Overseas

boxtrollsLaika Entertainment’s latest stop-motion animate film The Boxtrolls had a strong opening weekend overseas last weekend. The film opened September 11th in Mexico, Sweden and Denmark, where it came in second, fourth and sixth, respectively. The film opened the following day in the United Kingdom, where it came in first for the weekend. The Boxtrolls pulled in 3.4 million in the UK, compared with previous Laika films Coraline at $3.7 million and $2.3 million for ParaNorman. Overall, the film brought in $5.7 million in his opening weekend.

Third Boxtrolls Trailer

boxtrollsLaika Entertainment’s newest stop-motion feature film The Boxtrolls has a spiffy new trailer online today. The studio which brought us ParaNorman in 2012 and Coraline three years before that looks to repeat again with an incredibly crafted film. Originally titled Here Be Monsters, the film is a 3D stop-motion and CG hybrid animated feature.
