DreamWorks Animation has switched the release dates on a couple of upcoming films, one only six months before it was to hit screens. November’s release of Home has been switched with The Penguins of Madagascar, which was due out in just under a year.
As we count down to the release date of Disney’s new take on Maleficent, the PR machine is hitting high gear. A whole new series of posters starts the celebration off… four new teaser posters featuring the main characters from the film. Walt Disney Pictures promises to unveil new, exclusive movie content every day this week to further drive the anticipation for the film.
It took a while, but we are finally here! The Big Cartoon DataBase hit the milestone of 150,000 entries earlier today with the addition of the cartoon The Polish Language. This film was added to BCDB on May 9th, 2014 at 4:23 PM. It was originally submitted by Ethan Minovitz. Funnyman Will Ferrell and partner Adam McKay are working on bringing back everyone’s favorite stone-age family. The duo’s production company Gary Sanchez Productions is in development on a new Flintstones animated feature. Warner Bros. previously tried a Flintstones TV series produced by Seth MacFarlane, but that project never got beyond the pilot stage.
Director Kelly Asbury’s The Untitled Smurfs Movie- planned for a 2015 release- has been pushed back a year. But there is still no official title. The film is believed to be a full 3D CGI animated film, not an animation/live-action hybrid like the first two Smurf films from Sony.
Bob Hoskins, perhaps best known as detective Eddie Valiant in “Who Framed Roger Rabbit,” has died at age 71. Eddie was the live action comic foil to the animated Roger. He grudgingly helped the bunny clear his name when he was framed for murder. Along the way, he revealed that a toon killed his brother. Eventually, he confronted his adversary, who turned out to be the local judge.
The Annecy International Animated Film Festival has announced 18 films in the feature film competitions for the 2014 festival. Nine films will be in competition and nine out of competition, and these were selected from 68 films submitted this year. Annecy is considered the preeminent animation film festival in the world, and is a festival that many in the industry look to for the best in animation.
Laika Entertainment’s newest stop-motion feature film The Boxtrolls has a spiffy new trailer online today. The studio which brought us ParaNorman in 2012 and Coraline three years before that looks to repeat again with an incredibly crafted film. Originally titled Here Be Monsters, the film is a 3D stop-motion and CG hybrid animated feature.
Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed to the Disney shareholder meeting that Pixar is actively working on a sequel to their 2004 hit film The Incredibles. While very little other information was released, Iger did state the original director Brad Bird was working on the script for The Incredibles 2. Iger also mentioned the studio is in work on a second sequel to Cars, Cars 3.
Sony Pictures Digital Productions President Bob Osher has set out more particulars on the studios coming roster of animated films. Updating three and adding a fourth film, Osher said: “I am really excited by the variety of our upcoming projects as well as the amazing talent working on them.” Two of the films in process are sequels to previous Sony projects, and one is a rework of a popular animated character; only one is an original project for the studio.
