The Croods Coming Out of Cave at Berlin Festival
DreamWorks Animation’s prehistoric comedy-adventure movie The Croods will have its world premiere at the 63rd Berlin International Film Festival, it was revealed Thursday.
Directed by Kirk De Micco (Space Chimps) and Chris Sanders (How to Train Your Dragon), and with the voices of Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone and Ryan Reynolds, the 3D movie will be screened out of competition.
Five Animated Feature Films Up For Golden Globes
Five movies each have been nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced Thursday.
Three of the five were distributed by Walt Disney Pictures.

Washington, D.C.-area Film Critics Like ParaNorman
“ParaNorman” was named Best Animated Feature of 2012 by the Washington, D.C. Area Film Critics Association on Monday morning.
The movie defeated fellow nominees Brave, Frankenweenie, Rise of the Guardians and Wreck-It Ralph.
L.A. Critics Name “Frankenweenie” Best Animation
“Frankenweenie,” directed by Tim Burton, has been named the Best Animation of 2012 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association.
Don Hertzfeldt’s It’s Such a Beautiful Day was declared runner-up in the category.

Bydlo Named One of Canada’s 10 Best Short Animated Films
“Bydlo,” an animation directed by Patrick Bouchard for the National Film Board of Canada, was named Tuesday evening as one of Canada’s top short films of 2012.
The 12th annual Canada’s Top Ten list was announced at a Toronto gala organized by the Toronto International Film Festival Group. Actors Sarah Gadon and Don McKellar were the hosts.
Netflix, Disney Announce Feature Film Agreement
Netflix Inc. and The Walt Disney Company announced Tuesday a new multi-year licensing agreement that will make Netflix the exclusive United States subscription television service for first-run animated and live-action feature films from The Walt Disney Studios.

Brave, Guardians, Ralph each up for 10 Animation Annies
Three feature films each have received 10 nominations for the 49th Annual Annie Awards, recognizing the year’s best in the field of animation. The three are Brave (Pixar Animation Studios), Rise of the Guardians (DreamWorks Animation) and Wreck-It Ralph (Walt Disney Animation Studios). All three are among the eight nominees for Best Animated Feature.

Disney Channel’s “Phineas and Ferb” was the sole animated program announced Wednesday as a nominee for the 24th Annual Producers Guild Awards.
Studio Ghibli Animation Retrospective Coming to Vancouver
Between December 14 and January 3, the Vancity Theatre and The Cinematheque — both located in downtown Vancouver — are co-hosting Castles in the Sky: The Masters of Studio Ghibli. It’s a major retrospective of films from the world-renowned anime studio Studio Ghibli founded in Tokyo in 1985 by directors Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata and producer Toshio Suzuki.

Cartoon Network Europe series “The Amazing World Of Gumball” was the winner in both the Animation and Writing categories Sunday at the British Academy Children’s Awards.
Cartoon Zebras From South Africa Get Distributor
South Africa’s Triggerfish Studios’ 3D animated feature Khumba has been picked up for North American distribution by Millennium Entertainment. The film has just completed production. Khumba is a half-stripped zebra who sets out on a daring quest to earn his stripes.

Michael Hefferon Appointed President of Rainmaker Animation
Rainmaker Entertainment Inc. has appointed feature film and TV executive Michael Hefferon as president and executive producer, Craig Graham, newly appointed chairman and CEO of the Vancouver-based CGI animation production studio, announced.
