The Annies really like Pixar. A lot. In pretty well every category that the Pixar film Inside Out competed in, it won. Except for Animated Effects, where it was beat by The Good Dinosaur, also from Pixar. The 43rd Annie Awards, which are put on by ASIFA-Hollywood, recognize the best- yearly- in animation and related fields. This year, the powers that bee seem to think Disney was all that, giving that studio and it’s related companies over three quarters of all the awards for the year.

This years awards ceremony unfolded Saturday night at UCLA’s Royce Hall, with such luminaries as Edward James Olmos, Rita Moreno, Tom Kenny, Laraine Newman, Alexander Garfin, Hadley Belle Miller, Kristen Schaal, Michael-Leon Wooley, Sharlto Copely, Phyllis Smith, Andreas Deja and John Musker presenting over the evening.

What makes the near-total Disney-Pixar sweep even more ironic is the fact that the two studios pulled out of the 2010 Annie Awards for precisely this same reason. Disney Animation and Pixar president Ed Catmull and Pixar director John Lasseter pulled out to protest DreamWorks  Kung Fu Panda sweeping the awards in 2009. Something tells us that Disney will nor pull out next year because of this years sweep.
