Illumination Entertainment is not content to rest on the laurels of their Oscar nominations and sequel productions… Chris Meledandri’s animation company is rushing head-first into an aggressive production schedule. Barely ten days after announcing a third Despicable Me and a new Dr. Seuss film, Illumination has added another film to their release slate, an as-yet Untitled Pet Movie set for release February 12, 2016.
Three big name actors have been brought in to voice the main characters in Untitled Pet Movie. Louis C.K. is a quick-witted terrier rescue, Eric Stonestreet is Duke, the new pet in the house and a threat to the terriers sovereignty, and Kevin Hart as a rabbit named Snowball.
As is typical of Illumination’s projects, Chris Meledandri will produce with longtime collaborator Janet Healy. Despicable Me 1 & 2’s Chris Renaud will direct the project, with co-director Yarrow Cheney. The film is written by Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio.
The story is of a quick-witted terrier rescue who gets agitated when his master brings home a sloppy mongrel named Duke. Things get worse when the two dogs find themselves stuck in the streets of New York City, until they meet an adorable white bunny Snowball who might cause more trouble than expected.
It turns out that Snowball is the leader of an army of pets that were abandoned and are determined to get back at humanity and every owner-loving pet. The dogs must thwart this plot and make it back in time for dinner.
The Minions is the next big release for Illuminations, set for release on July 10, 2015, followed by aother Dr. Seuss story Dr. Seuss’ The Cat In The Hat in late 2015. The Untitled Pet Movie hits theaters on February 12, 2016 with a second Untitled movie releasing December of 2016. Despicable Me 3 is due June 30, 2017. The current Illuminations slate ends with a remake of Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! on November 17, 2017.
