Aspiring singer Leslie Carter, the sister of performers Nick and Aaron Carter, died Tuesday in upstate New York, a family spokesperson confirmed. She was 25.
No further details on her death were immediately available.
Carter’s 2001 performance of “Like Wow!”, written by James Harry and Sandra St. Victor, was heard on the soundtrack of that year’s Shrek.
Released by DreamWorks Records, the song received minor radio airplay and reached No. 99 on the charts in the United States.
“Our family is grieving right now and it’s a private matter. We are deeply saddened for the loss of our beloved sister, daughter, and granddaughter, Leslie Carter,” the Carter family said in a statement Tuesday night. “We request the utmost privacy during this difficult time.”
Born Leslie Barbara Carter in Tampa, Florida on June 6, 1986, she was the second of five children.
Reportedly, she signed a record deal with DreamWorks Records in 1999 and started working on a debut album. The album was never released, though.
She married her husband Mike in 2008.
In July 2010, she reportedly announced on her Twitter page that she was pregnant with her first child. Also reportedly, she gave birth to daughter Alyssa Jane Ashton last April 1.
