Aspir­ing singer Leslie Carter, the sis­ter of per­form­ers Nick and Aaron Carter, died Tues­day in upstate New York, a fam­ily spokesper­son con­firmed. She was 25.

No fur­ther details on her death were imme­di­ately available.

Carter’s 2001 per­for­mance of “Like Wow!”, writ­ten by James Harry and San­dra St. Vic­tor, was heard on the sound­track of that year’s Shrek.

Released by Dream­Works Records, the song received minor radio air­play and reached No. 99 on the charts in the United States.

Our fam­ily is griev­ing right now and it’s a pri­vate mat­ter. We are deeply sad­dened for the loss of our beloved sis­ter, daugh­ter, and grand­daugh­ter, Leslie Carter,” the Carter fam­ily said in a state­ment Tues­day night. “We request the utmost pri­vacy dur­ing this dif­fi­cult time.”

Born Leslie Bar­bara Carter in Tampa, Florida on June 6, 1986, she was the sec­ond of five children.

Report­edly, she signed a record deal with Dream­Works Records in 1999 and started work­ing on a debut album. The album was never released, though.

She mar­ried her hus­band Mike in 2008.

In July 2010, she report­edly announced on her Twit­ter page that she was preg­nant with her first child. Also report­edly, she gave birth to daugh­ter Alyssa Jane Ash­ton last April 1.
