A British screenwriter has sought an injunction in United States District Court to prevent Cars 2 from leaving the lot.
Jake Mandeville-Anthony filed the claim this week. He’s suing Disney and Pixar, charging that the 2006 blockbuster Cars and its sequel — which is slated for theatrical release June 24 — are partially based on work he submitted in the early 1990s.
Mandeville states that he created two screenplays: Cookie & Co., a three-parter about real-life adventure race car driver Michael Owen Perkins, who won a 1988 race, and Cars, which included 46 animated car character descriptions, 10 cars character sketches, a treatment, a sample screenplay, and a marketing and merchandising plan.
