Disney Hits The South Pacific in 2018

Disney's MoanaDis­ney has announced an ani­mated fea­ture for 2018– and their newest Princess in the process through the site D55. Moana will fea­ture Moana Waia­liki, Disney’s first hero­ine of Poly­ne­sian extrac­tion. She will be the only daugh­ter of a chief in a long line of navigators.

The film is to be directed by Dis­ney vet­er­ans John Musker and Ron Clements. Clements and Musker have a tries his­tory at the stu­dio, includ­ing The Lit­tle Mer­maid, Aladdin and 2009’s The Princess And The Frog. The to be ani­mated in the 2D/3D hybrid style sim­i­lar to Disney’s Paper­man. How­ever, Direc­tor John Musker adds that “it’s far too early to apply the Paper­man hybrid tech­nique to a feature.”

The story, which is set about 2000 years ago, is not very elab­o­rate yet. It is the story of Moana Waia­liki, a sea voy­ag­ing enthu­si­ast, and the only daugh­ter of a chief in a long line of nav­i­ga­tors. When her fam­ily needs her help, she sets off on an epic jour­ney. The film will also include demi-gods and spir­its taken from real mythology.
