Thank you all for your interest in our List of Disney animated films. While producing the list with one page for each film gave us the opportunity to add a lot of facts and Disney trivia, it made it hard for those looking for a simple list of the films to get through. Thanks for letting us know, and we heard you. So we have created a simple, one-page Disney Cartoon Canon Index.
The new, one-page Disney film archive will give an at-a-glance access to all the pertinent information for the classic Disney films. Release dates, directors and writers are all listed for each film. Where available, we have also included links to the DVD and Blu-ray versions on the Amazon. If you want more information, each film links to the main page of the film at the Big Cartoon DataBase.
The old List of Disney animated films includes all the same films, just with more information. We have tried (where appropriate) to provide some insightful background information about each film, and important production information.
Both catalogs list tyhe Disney films in order of production, starting with Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs through the most recently announced Moana. There are currently 57 announced films on the official directory of Disney Animated Films.
So what does it take to make “the list”? First– and most obvious– the film has to be animated by the Disney Studios, or, more recently, Walt Disney Animation Studios. It is this important distinction that puts one wobbler onto the list– 2000’s Dinosaur but also leaves off numerous Disney-associated films, such as all the Pixar films, the direct to video films produced at Disney Toon Studios, and any of the movies produced at other film units at The Walt Disney Studios. Second, the film must be substantially animated, not live-action with animated sequences. Satisfy those requirements, and you are on “the List.”
So what films are on the list, and in what order? Currently, there are 57 films, from 1939 through 2018. There are probably a few you’ve never seen, and a few surprises, and a lot of fun memories. So link here to see the full canon of Disney cartoon feature films.
