The Adven­tures of Tintin” has been nom­i­nated for six VES Awards, while Rango has been nom­i­nated for four, the Visual Effects Soci­ety announced Monday.

Both movies were nom­i­nated for Out­stand­ing Visual Effects in an Ani­mated Fea­ture Motion Pic­ture. The title char­ac­ters of both films are up for Out­stand­ing Ani­mated Char­ac­ter in an Ani­mated Fea­ture Motion Pic­ture. As well, each has been nom­i­nated for Out­stand­ing Vir­tual Cin­e­matog­ra­phy in an Ani­mated Fea­ture Motion Picture.

For Out­stand­ing Cre­ated Envi­ron­ment in an Ani­mated Fea­ture Motion Pic­ture, Rango was nom­i­nated for Main Street Dirt. The Adven­tures of Tintin had three nom­i­na­tions: for Bag­ghar, Docks and Pirate Battle.

Round­ing out the nom­i­na­tions for Out­stand­ing Visual Effects in an Ani­mated Fea­ture Motion Pic­ture are Arthur Christ­mas, Kung Fu Panda 2 and Puss In Boots.

Other nom­i­nees for Out­stand­ing Ani­mated Char­ac­ter in an Ani­mated Fea­ture Motion Pic­ture are Puss in Puss In Boots and Nigel in Rio.

The remain­ing nom­i­nee for Out­stand­ing Cre­ated Envi­ron­ment in an Ani­mated Fea­ture Motion Pic­ture is The Cloud World, from Puss In Boots.

Also up for Out­stand­ing Vir­tual Cin­e­matog­ra­phy in an Ani­mated Fea­ture Motion Pic­ture are Arthur Christ­mas and Cars 2.

Nom­i­nees for Out­stand­ing Visual Effects in a Broad­cast Minis­eries, Movie, or Spe­cial include the ani­mated Prep & Land­ing: Naughty vs. Nice.

For Out­stand­ing Visual Effects in an Ani­mated Com­mer­cial or Video Game Trailer, the nom­i­nees are Audi A6 Avant — Hum­ming­bird, Coca-Cola Siege, Dia­blo III: The Black Soul­stone, Prey 2 and Sony: 2 Worlds.

Nom­i­nees for Out­stand­ing Ani­mated Char­ac­ter in a Live Action Fea­ture Motion Pic­ture are Harry Pot­ter and the Deathly Hal­lows Part 2 — Ukran­ian Iron­belly, Paul — Paul, Rise of the Planet of the Apes — Cae­sar and The Thing — Edvard/Adam.

For Out­stand­ing Ani­mated Char­ac­ter in a Broad­cast Pro­gram or Com­mer­cial, the nom­i­nees are Audi A6 Avant — Hum­ming­bird, Canal + — The Bear, Carls Jr. — Robot and Game of Thrones — Fire and Blood.

Nom­i­nees for the 10th Annual VES Awards were cho­sen Sat­ur­day by pan­els of VES mem­bers who viewed sub­mis­sions at the FotoKem screen­ing facil­i­ties in Bur­bank and New York, FotoKem’s Spy in San Fran­cisco, and other facil­i­ties in Lon­don, Syd­ney, Van­cou­ver and Welling­ton, New Zealand.

The stan­dard of the cre­ative work that is being con­sid­ered this year is unbe­liev­ably high across all cat­e­gories,” said soci­ety chair Jef­frey A. Okun. “The judges faced a huge chal­lenge because all of the work was so far above the norm. We’re hon­ored to have the oppor­tu­nity to focus the spot­light on the out­stand­ing work that has con­tributed to some of the high­est gross­ing films and broad­cast projects of all time.”

As pre­vi­ously announced, Stan Lee will be hon­ored with the VES 2012 Life­time Achieve­ment Award and Dou­glas Trum­bull with the Georges Méliès Award.

The 10th Annual VES Awards will take place Tues­day, Feb­ru­ary 7 at the Bev­erly Hilton Hotel and will air exclu­sively on ReelzChannel.
