“Adventures of Tintin” nominated for 6 VES Awards

The Adventures of Tintin” has been nominated for six VES Awards, while Rango has been nominated for four, the Visual Effects Society announced Monday.

Both movies were nominated for Outstanding Visual Effects in an Animated Feature Motion Picture. The title characters of both films are up for Outstanding Animated Character in an Animated Feature Motion Picture. As well, each has been nominated for Outstanding Virtual Cinematography in an Animated Feature Motion Picture.

For Outstanding Created Environment in an Animated Feature Motion Picture, Rango was nominated for Main Street Dirt. The Adventures of Tintin had three nominations: for Bagghar, Docks and Pirate Battle.

Rounding out the nominations for Outstanding Visual Effects in an Animated Feature Motion Picture are Arthur Christmas, Kung Fu Panda 2 and Puss In Boots.

Other nominees for Outstanding Animated Character in an Animated Feature Motion Picture are Puss in Puss In Boots and Nigel in Rio.

The remaining nominee for Outstanding Created Environment in an Animated Feature Motion Picture is The Cloud World, from Puss In Boots.

Also up for Outstanding Virtual Cinematography in an Animated Feature Motion Picture are Arthur Christmas and Cars 2.

Nominees for Outstanding Visual Effects in a Broadcast Miniseries, Movie, or Special include the animated Prep & Landing: Naughty vs. Nice.

For Outstanding Visual Effects in an Animated Commercial or Video Game Trailer, the nominees are Audi A6 Avant – Hummingbird, Coca-Cola Siege, Diablo III: The Black Soulstone, Prey 2 and Sony: 2 Worlds.

Nominees for Outstanding Animated Character in a Live Action Feature Motion Picture are Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 – Ukranian Ironbelly, Paul – Paul, Rise of the Planet of the Apes – Caesar and The Thing – Edvard/Adam.

For Outstanding Animated Character in a Broadcast Program or Commercial, the nominees are Audi A6 Avant – Hummingbird, Canal + – The Bear, Carls Jr. – Robot and Game of Thrones – Fire and Blood.

Nominees for the 10th Annual VES Awards were chosen Saturday by panels of VES members who viewed submissions at the FotoKem screening facilities in Burbank and New York, FotoKem’s Spy in San Francisco, and other facilities in London, Sydney, Vancouver and Wellington, New Zealand.

“The standard of the creative work that is being considered this year is unbelievably high across all categories,” said society chair Jeffrey A. Okun. “The judges faced a huge challenge because all of the work was so far above the norm. We’re honored to have the opportunity to focus the spotlight on the outstanding work that has contributed to some of the highest grossing films and broadcast projects of all time.”

As previously announced, Stan Lee will be honored with the VES 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award and Douglas Trumbull with the Georges Méliès Award.

The 10th Annual VES Awards will take place Tuesday, February 7 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel and will air exclusively on ReelzChannel.
