Almost two years ago, Cartoon Network announced a reboot of the popular 1998-2005 Craig McCracken series The Powerpuff Girls at the 2014 Licensing Expo in Las Vegas. The new series is a little closer to it’s June debut on Cartoon Network, and now we have a fully animated teaser video of the first episode to judge it by.

France’s national film awards- the Césars- have been announced. With two animation categories, it is not unlike the Academy Awards, except the entrants are limited to French films. The ceremony will take place in Paris on February 26 at the Théâtre du Châtelet.

Snowtime! An Animated Ball


La Guerre des Tuques snowtime!

In the wake of the massive snow storm on the Eastern seaboard, I found myself waiting in line to see Carpe Diem’s winter children’s animated snowfest La Guerre des Tuques, which is called Snowtime! for US audiences. This Sundance showing was the premiere of the English-language version of the film, and was shown as part of the Sundance Kids segment of the film festival. The kids at the show were all met by Chloe at the door, and most left with their very own Snowball of fun.

NEW YORK INT’L CHILDREN’S FILM FESTIVAL

The critically acclaimed New York Int’l Children’s Film Festival has announced its 2016 jury and slate preview for the upcoming event, which runs February 26-March 20 in New York. Now in its 19th year, the Festival is the nation’s largest for children and teens and will present all new animated, live action, documentary and experimental shorts and features from approximately 30 countries.

Boy and the Beast Gets US Release


Bakemono No Ko (The Boy and the Beast)

Mamoru Hosoda’s newest film Bakemono No Ko (The Boy and the Beast) has been slated for it’s US release. Funimation Entertainment announced their distribution of the eagerly anticipated film in an original subtitled Japanese and English dub versions will commence March 4 and screen in theaters nationwide.

Oscar Nominees Are Announced

Awards season is upon us, an the grand-daddy of all the awards shows announced their nominees early this morning. At 5:30 am, John Krasinski, Guillermo Del Toro & Ang Lee announced the selected few at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. Conspicuous by their absence are any films from Disney and DreamWorks; this years animation nominees show more of a foreign film blend than we have seen in previous years. Overall, Leonardo DiCaprio’s The Revenant was the big winner overall, taking in 11 total nominations. Jennifer Lawrence became the youngest woman- at 24- to garner four Best Actress nominations.

DreamWorks Announces a Cast of Trolls


DreamWorks troll

DreamWorks Animation today announce the main voice cast of their second feature film for 2016. Trolls will feature the voices of Justin Timberlake, Anna Kendrick, Gwen Stefani, James Corden, Russell Brand, Icona Pop, Ron Funches and Kunal Nayaar, all of whom have all taken to Twitter to reveal their characters.

2015 Student Academy Award Winners Announced


Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Oscar

The Academy has announced this years medalists for the Student Academy Award. The medalists in the animation category are An Object at Rest, Soar, and Taking the Plunge. The specific placement for the films- gold, silver, and bronze- will be announced on September 17 at an awards ceremony in Beverly Hills, California. Animated shorts also showed up in the alternative category, with Chiaroscuro and Zoe both also placing there.
